What is a CSF?
A CSF (Community Supported Fishery) operates similarly to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). In that during a season, participants buy shares. A share consists of LOCALLY grown or responsibly harvested FRESH seafood, about 2 lbs or enough for a two person meal. We may on occasion have a "Guest Fish" from the region(but not NJ) or from another regional CSF as a share. We are trying to concentrate on those species which are abundant and sometimes underutilized. All offerings are from responsibly harvested and farmed species. Persons may on occasion, ask for an additional share, and sometimes we can supply it if we receive at least 48 hrs notice. Eventide Littlenecks from Heritage Shellfish( a 3# box) can be ordered with any share, if ordered at least 48 hrs in advance.
Past offerings included Soft crabs, Littleneck clams, Oysters,Top Neck Clams,Thresher Shark (abundant and not endangered), Cape Shark, Golden Tile, Albacore Tuna,Yellow Fin Tuna,Flounder, Monkfish,Scallops and Lobsters.
The shareholder goes to the host farm, and signs for, and receives their share during times established. It is wise to bring a small cooler and gel packs or ice(frozen water bottles work too) for transporting your share back home and placing in refrigeration ASAP, to insure freshness. We will try to let shareholders know in advance what the share will be and offer recipes.
If for any reason a share is not available..we will reschedule or refund that shares cost.
You can assign your share for pickup to someone else, but you must notify the host farm in advance.
Shares not picked up, become the property of the farm.
Our hosts this season are: Rutgers Farm Garden Market ( New Brunswick),The Juice Basin (Asbury Park), and Dreyer Farms(Cranford)
